Autism and ADHD Assessments (16+)
Flourish Clinical psychologist Louise Adams offers comprehensive ADHD and Autism assessments for individuals aged 16 and over in a neurodiversity affirming environment.
What is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulsivity, and executive functioning. People with ADHD find it difficult to stay focused, manage tasks, organise activities, or regulate impulses. People with ADHD may often feel overwhelmed with the multiple demands of adult life. ADHD presents differently in each individual, and while some may feel easily distracted, forgetful, or ‘dreamy’, others may experience high energy levels and impulsive decision-making. Understanding ADHD is essential in developing effective coping strategies and optimising personal strengths.
What is Autism?
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects social communication, behaviour, and sensory processing. Autistic people experience the world differently, which can influence communication, social relationships, and many aspects of everyday life. Autism includes a wide range of experiences and traits: each individual has their own unique combination of strengths and challenges. Recognising and understanding autism is crucial in identifying effective strategies for daily living, personal goals, and communication.
Why Formal Assessment Can Help
A formal assessment provides clarity and validation for individuals who may be experiencing challenges in focus, organisation, or social interactions. Understanding how ADHD or Autism may be contributing to these experiences opens the door to tailored support, practical tools, and resources. A diagnosis allows for more effective communication with partners, family, workplaces, educational settings, or healthcare providers to ensure your unique needs are understood and accommodated.
ADHD Assessment Process:
-
Pre-Interview Questionnaires: You’ll begin by completing self-report questionnaires which provides important background information and helps guide the assessment.
-
Clinical Interview: A 90-minute to 2-hour structured diagnostic interview (available online or in person) allows a thorough evaluation of symptoms and experiences.
-
Scoring and Report Preparation: After scoring and interpretation, and considering differential diagnosis, an in-depth report is created which can be shared with other health professionals, including psychiatrists, who may confirm the diagnosis and recommend medication if desired.
-
Feedback Session: After 2-4 weeks, we’ll meet for a 30-minute feedback session to discuss results and outline next steps.
